|
|
I've been collecting on and off for about 55 years.
I started with Wheaties right out of circulation what expanded a bit to other issues.
The 60's were a quiet time collecting-wise since those were my college and military years.
I got cranked up again in the 70's but stopped about 1980 when the market went through the roof.
I started again just after the market plunged about 1990 and have been going hot and heavy since then.
My pride and joy is my Type Set based on the NGC Registry. But it's somewhat static now since all that's left is the expensive items.
So to keep in touch with numismatics my current most active sets are:
- Classic Head half cents
- Capped Bust half dimes (which is why I'm here)
I got curious about die marriages of my Capped Bust half dimes so I bought the Logan/McCloskey book and dove in.
DEFINITELY not easy but with help from people on other sites I'm confident I've got the 1829 ID'ed.
I'll be asking for more help as I go through the rest of my set.
And I'll have a question about the book too. |

I think I helped you on that 1829 half dime, nice coin you have there. _________________ MIA:

You very well might have.
I had it posted on CoinTalk and in the NGC Chatroom and got good help from both places.
My next steps are:
- polish all my half dime slabs
- image all the coins
- do my best to ID the die marriages
- post the ones that I get stymied on
They all grade XF or AU with one MS so coin wear shouldn't be a significant problem.
Plus I have to find the correct forum category to ask my main question about the Logan/McCloskey book. |

| Congratulations on joining the forum! Any questions about bust half dimes or the LM book, I'll be glad to help out also. Attributing half dimes will become easier with practice looking at many half dimes, if you set your mind to it; eventually you'll be able to try attributing a half dime without the book and then look it up to check up on yourself and find out if and why you were off on the attribution. Over the years up to 2000, Russ Logan and I would bump into each other at major shows and talk baby busties, and I purchased a number of his half dimes at the November 2002 sale of his collection. Are you anywhere near northern Baltimore County by any chance? |

Nope, Silver Spring.
I got all my half dime die marriages ID'ed.
All common except the 1829.
And I forgot that I have one more in my type set. Got to do it yet.
I still have a problem understanding the table on page 54 of the LM book.
For some reason I can't figure out what all the decimal numbers mean in the chart. |
